While our activities that help people in our community can be found in Community Outreach, this page covers the ways we strive to grow more Christ-like and spend time in study/devotion.
On Sunday mornings, the sermon, song choices and group readings/prayers point towards a particular Biblical theme. Also worth noting: all our community outreach can contribute to spiritual growth also because the love of God is best developed and shared through ACTION.
Sunday School
At 10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, lay servants Lily Pierce and Rynn McGee-Pierce select a scripture passage to teach, usually from the Lectionary. They may present a skit or prop or share historical facts, but the lesson always connects the passage to our lives so we can live out our faith in Jesus Christ. The lesson is followed by a free-form, laidback group discussion.
Lectio Divina
Pastor Wanda Lancaster leads members of Gideon Grove UMC and Palestine UMC in a Bible study on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. We are currently going through the Book of Psalms.
